Hay fever season: medication top tips

It’s that time of year once again – hay fever season. With pollen levels rising as the weather gets warmer, UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) is advising athletes to check the status of any medication before use.

Some medical treatments are prohibited in-competition according to the WADA Prohibited List. Here are some useful tips on checking your hay fever medication:

Key Points to Remember

  • Check the anti-doping status of the medication using Global Drug Reference Online (Global DRO)
  • Make sure the search result contains the status of all ingredients listed in the medication
  • Keep a copy of the search results for your own records
  • Annual changes to the Prohibited List come into effect each year on 1 January, so make sure to re-check all medication even if you checked it last year
  • If the medication is prohibited, you should contact UKAD by sending an email to tue@ukad.org.uk to find out the specific TUE requirements and for information on how to apply
  • If you are unable to find the medication you are looking for on Global DRO, you can send an enquiry to UKAD directly via the Global DRO website
