Updates to our Privacy Notices

UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) will publish updates to our Privacy Notices this month on www.ukad.org.uk, providing clearer, more detailed information about how your personal data is used and protected. 

The Anti-Doping Privacy Notice covers how UKAD may use your data to fulfil its regulatory functions under the World Anti-Doping Code, the UK National Anti-Doping Policy and the UK Anti-Doping Rules. 

The General Privacy Notice covers how UKAD may use your data that is collected through our websites and through online and offline communications. 

Below is a summary of the changes. 

What's new in the Anti-Doping Privacy Notice 

In the Anti-Doping Privacy Notice, we have: 

  • Provided further explanation of how we use data, explaining what data we collect, why it's needed, who it's shared with, and what rights you have.
  • Expanded on data categories, including additional types of information we may collect:
  • Device information when you use online tools
  • Criminal offence information where relevant to anti-doping investigations
  • Health data, whereabouts information, and sport-related data (as before) 

Clear legal basis for processing 

We have clarified the legal reasons for using your data, including for: 

  • Public task – eliminating doping in sport
  • Consent – for example, when you participate in research
  • Legal obligations – requirements under anti-doping rules
  • Legitimate interests – with appropriate safeguards in place 

Data sharing explained 

The Anti-Doping Privacy Notice also details who we share information with and why.  

Data is now kept for defined periods aligned with the WADA International Standard for the Protection of Privacy and Personal Information. 

Transparency on published decisions 

UKAD will publish certain decisions as required by the World Anti-Doping Code. The notice now makes this explicit. 

What's new in the General Privacy Notice 

In the General Privacy Notice, we have: 

  • Included a broader scope of data including additional data types
  • Included specific references to UKAD's digital tools:
  • WhistleBot (due to launch in 2026)
  • Asthma Inhaler Threshold Calculator
  • TUE Wizard
  • Clean Sport Hub
  • 100% me Clean Sport App 

Clear legal reasons for data use 

And the notice more clearly explains why UKAD uses your data, including public task, consent, contract, and legal obligations. 

Your rights under UK GDPR explained 

The updated notices set out your full rights, including: 

  • Accessing your data
  • Correcting inaccurate information
  • Requesting deletion
  • Objecting to processing
  • Withdrawing consent  

Important: Some data is mandatory under anti-doping rules. Not providing it could itself be a violation.
