UKAD Issues Warning Regarding Higenamine to Athletes
UK Anti-Doping cautions athletes and players in the UK to be aware of the prohibited substance higenamine following a number of Adverse Analytical Findings in Australia.
Higenamine is classified as a Beta-2 Agonist on the WADA Prohibited List, prohibited in and out-of-competition.
Higenamine can be found in dietary supplements. It is often listed by the following names:
• Nandina domestica
• Tinospora crispa
• Aconitum japonicum
• Gnetum Parvifolium
• Asarum hetertropoides
All athletes are advised to be vigilant in using any supplement. No guarantee can be given that any particular supplement is free from prohibited substances.
You can reduce the risks by:
• undertaking thorough internet research
• only using batch-tested products
• discuss your options with a registered sport and exercise nutritionist
Further information and advice can be found on the UKAD supplements page.
