Doping Control staff have a fundamental role in the promotion of drug-free sport both nationally and internationally.
Employed on a sub contractor basis, they come from a variety of backgrounds to provide a flexible and efficient service in the collection of blood and urine from athletes.
The doping control scheme has been in existence in the UK since 1990, where doping control staff conducted tests firstly on behalf of National Governing Bodies and then under the GB Sports Council prior to UK Sport being formed in 1996.
All staff are trained in accordance with the WADA International Standard for Testing and the UK Doping Control Staff Handbook. They are required to undergo continual assessment and new trainees go through a rigorous equality recruitment process and are required to submit a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) enhanced disclosure.
Doping Control staff have conducted testing at numerous major events over the last decade including;
- Commonwealth Games (Manchester 2002)
- World Indoor Athletics Championship (Birmingham 2003)
- World Rowing Championships (Dorney Lake 2006)
- European Indoor Athletics Championships (Birmingham 2007)
- World Short Course Swimming Championships in (Manchester 2008).
