It has been confirmed this week that UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) – the body that will take over as National Anti-Doping Organisation from UK Sport – will be based in London until 2012. The news comes as the deadline nears for applications for the post of UKAD Chief Executive.
UKAD will be responsible for the existing test management and education responsibilities currently carried out by UK Sport, together with significant new powers including the centralisation of case management and a strong focus on developing the new organisation’s capabilities in the use of intelligence. These changes will ensure that the UK is best-placed to tackle doping in sport in the run-up to London 2012 and beyond.
Following the Treasury’s decision on location, John Steele, UK Sport’s Chief Executive, said:
“This is fantastic news, not just for staff but for the project as a whole. Being in close proximity to the WADA-accredited laboratory at King’s College, the law enforcement agencies, DCMS and of course the Games themselves means UKAD can really hit the ground running when its doors open at the end of the year.”
Meanwhile, individuals wishing to apply for the post of Chief Executive of UKAD have until 5pm on Monday 6 July to do so. Interviews for the £90,000 per year are then expected to be held at the end of July.
