NADO Business Case Submitted Shelley Rudman

UK Sport has this week presented the Business Case for the new National Anti-Doping Organisation (NADO) to the Minister for Sport Gerry Sutcliffe. The document contains details of the recommended approach to the establishment and operation of the NADO, and follows an intensive period of work which has included direct input from over 30 partner organisations.

It was announced in December that a new stand-alone NADO was needed to ensure the UK maintains its position at the forefront of the global fight against doping in sport. This will see the NADO taking on UK Sport’s existing anti-doping responsibilities, as well as be enhanced with additional powers and functionality to centralise certain aspects of anti-doping and provide better links with law enforcement agencies. Following the announcement, Sutcliffe asked UK Sport to develop the Business Case which he will now consider.

John Scott, Director of Drug-Free Sport at UK Sport, said: “The Business Case is essentially the ‘meat on the bones’ of what was agreed in principle in December. Everyone is in agreement that a new, more powerful NADO is required; the document outlines what is required to get that in place.

“The drafting of it has been a real collaborative effort which highlights the commitment there is to anti-doping within British sport. We’ve also had strong backing from the Minister throughout. He will now consider the Business Case and inform us of the way forward in due course.”

As part of the development of the Business Case, UK Sport hosted Stakeholder Forums in London, Edinburgh and Cardiff. Questions raised at these sessions have been collated and the first set of answers are available on the UK Sport website.
