Whereabouts

The whereabouts system is essential to protecting your sport. Simply put, whereabouts is about openness and transparency, underlining the achievements of clean, doping-free athletes.

Whereabouts is a system designed to support out-of-competition testing and it is widely recognised that it is fundamental in protecting clean athletes. Some athletes may be selected for the National Registered Testing Pool (NRTP). If you are nominated for inclusion in the NRTP, you will be notified by your National Governing Body (NGB) or by UK Anti-Doping. You will be required to supply details of your whereabouts so you can be located for testing at any time and anywhere without advance notice.

ADAMS

Athletes on the National Registered Testing Pool (NRTP) use a computer system called ADAMS (Anti-Doping Administration & Management System). The information they must provide is listed below:

One-hour testing slot every day of the year

This hour slot MUST be between the hours of 6:00 am and 11:00 pm and in a specified location where you can be available for testing. This information MUST be up-to-date at all times as athletes not in their specified locations at the allocated hour may receive a missed test whereabouts failure.

Athletes MUST remain in their specified location for the entire hour as the Doping Control Officer may arrive at any time within that hour slot.

If you need to adjust your hour and/or change your specified location, you may do so directly in ADAMS. If there is an emergency change, you may text or call us up to one minute before the start of your specified hour.

 

Address of overnight residence for each day

If you have a few regular places where you stay, you can add all of these in ADAMS in order to make any amendments to your overnight residence easy to manage.

If you are staying in a hotel, for example, then you need to add your room number to your whereabouts or ensure that the room is booked in your name so any Doping Control Officer can locate you easily.

 

Regular activities (e.g. training and work)

All regular training information must be included in your whereabouts submission, including locations and times.

 

Competition schedule

Always include the competition title, location and the times you will be there. If you leave an event a day or more earlier than expected, please remember to update your whereabouts. You must still be available for an hour slot, even on competition days.

Top tips for updating your whereabouts

  • Keep the one-hour slot and location consistent
  • Programme a phone alarm to remind you to check that you will be where you need to be for your designated hour
  • Save the whereabouts contact numbers in your phone
  • Ask close friends and family to save the whereabouts contact numbers as a back-up
  • Carry the ADAMS updates key-ring with you as a quick reference for the whereabouts contact details
  • Ensure friends and family are aware of your obligations as an athlete in the NRTP
  • Print a copy of your ADAMS calendar for those who may need to be aware, such as coaches
  • Contact UK Anti-Doping if you need help
  • Submit whereabouts information ahead of the submission deadline, as this gives your NGB and UK Anti-Doping the opportunity provide support
  • Make sure up-to-date email and phone numbers are saved in ADAMS so reminders can be sent to you regarding submitting whereabouts.
